Following High Court orders instructing municipal corporation of Haridwar to clean Ganga Ghats every three hours and also submit video evidence to the court as proof, a two member team inspected the Haridwar ghats. The team was appointed by High Court with members including Nikhil Sehgal and Chetan Joshi. This has brought smiles to the residents of the holy city who were perturbed by the stink arising from garbage and choked drains.
Haridwar based High Court advocate Lalit Miglani had filed a public interest litigation in the High Court regarding the lack of cleanliness at the Ganga ghats here. Acting on the various pleas, the High Court has ordered the local municipal body to maintain cleanliness.
Despite prior information that the inspection team was coming, municipal corporation officials did not manage the affair efficiently, said one observer at Har Ki Paidi. "We are happy to hear about this order and hope that in future the drains would be clean and we shall be able to live in cleaner surroundings," said Krishna Bhall, a resident of Bada bazaar.
The team inspected the condition of the drains, and nullahs in the area near the ghats. Speaking to The Pioneer, municipal commissioner Lalit Narayan Mishra said, “The condition is improving and lot has been done ever since the High Court orders came but still condition of drains needs much improvement.”
