The High Court has held the appointment of Chandra Shekhar Nautiyal to the post of Doon University Vice-Chancellor invalid.

The division Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Alok Kumar Verma has directed the State Government to relieve him of his post immediately and start the procedure for appointing a new vice chancellor in the university.

Dehradun resident Yagya Bhushan Sharma had filed a public interest litigation in the high court challenging Nautiyal’s appointment to the post of Doon University vice chancellor.  The petitioner had stated that facts were misrepresented to present Nautiyal as a professor whereas he had never been a professor. Further, he did not have 10 year experience in teaching as required as per the norms set by the University Grants Commission.

Stating that Nautiyal did not qualify to be selected for the post of vice chancellor, the petitioner had stated that he should not be allowed to continue on the post. Considering the facts presented, the high court quashed the appointment of Nautiyal to the post of Doon University vice chancellor.

It also directed the state Government to soon form a search committee and conduct the procedure for appointment of vice chancellor as per the regulations.
