The Uttarakhand High Court (HC) has issued contempt notices to District Magistrate of Dehradun Ravinath Raman and his predecessor Chandresh Kumar on the issue of handing over the charge of Mahadevi Kanya Pathshala (MKP) to the managing body of the college.
Addressing the media persons here on Thursday, the secretary of the MKP College management committee Jitendra Singh Negi said that acting on a petition of the management committee on January 8, the HC has ordered that the charge of the college should be handed over to the management. He informed that despite regular reminders to the district magistrate of Dehradun to comply the HC orders the district administration is yet to hand over the charge of the college. Negi said that the management filed a contempt petition in the HC on which the Justice Alok Singh passed the contempt notice against Chandresh Kumar (who was DM till January 16) and Ravi Nath Raman (present DM).
The Uttarakhand government dissolved the management of MKP College when the row over removal of college Principal Indu Singh by the management occurred. The government handed over the charge of MKP College on July 10 2013 to District Magistrate. On February 23, 2014 the election of the management committee was completed under the supervision of HC. The newly elected management committee of college was trying to get back the charge of college since then. The secretary of the committee said that it is unfortunate that the district magistrate is not following the orders of HC.
The President of MKP College Indu Singh said that it is unfortunate that the functioning of a women college is not being handed over to the management committee which is constitutionally elected and its being headed by a woman.
