The High Court of Uttarakhand in Nainital has issued a contempt of court notice to the Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Shatrughna Singh for non-observance of the court order, directing him to submit his response to the court within a period of six months.
As per the case details, the Jaikashi Jeep Car Sumo Association, Garhwal, had filed a petition in the High Court stating that on March 5, 2015, the State Government had issued a Government order exempting members of the association from paying the road tax. However, citing non-execution of the said Government order, the petitioner approached the HC.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the past, the High Court had ordered that jeep, car and Sumo drivers be exempted from paying road tax in addition to provision of monetary assistance to these drivers.
However, the orders of the court had not been executed which made the petitioner approach the HC. Hearing the matter on Tuesday, the HC single bench of justice Sudhanshu Dhulia directed that a contempt notice be issued to the Chief Secretary in the matter.
