In a big relief to the State Government, the Uttarakhand High Court on Friday quashed a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the reservation status of the mayoral posts in the upcoming elections to the municipal corporations spread across the State.

The court of the officiating chief justice Rajiv Sharma and Manoj Tiwari ordered that the election process in on now and so it cannot be challenged at this juncture.

In the PIL, the advocate D K Tyagi had challenged the reservation status of the mayors on the ground that five out of seven seats in the State were kept reserved by the State Government which violated the Supreme Court ruling that the reservation cannot exceed 50 percent.
