The High Court of Uttarakhand has directed the State Government to strictly implement the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and not to allow dumping of garbage on rivers, riverbanks and forest land.
Further, directing the Uttarkashi municipality to stop dumping the city’s garbage in the Tekla mountain stream, the court directed the District Magistrate to probe within 15 days and take action against those dumping garbage there.
According to the case details, taking cognisance of a report published in a newspaper on August 31 regarding Uttarkashi municipality dumping the city’s garbage in the tributary of the Ganga, the division bench of acting chief justice Rajiv Sharma and justice Sharad Kumar Sharma issued these directions.
