Hearing the petition of drivers rendered jobless with the end of GVK-EMRI’s contract for operating the 108 emergency ambulance service, the High Court of Uttarakhand has directed the medical and health secretary to resolve the problems of such employees so that the emergency ambulance service can resume in the state. Kaladhungi resident PC Joshi who worked as an ambulance driver had filed a petition stating that he was employed in the service since 2010.
With the end of GVK-EMRI company’s contract ending on April 30, the drivers have been rendered jobless with a new company getting the contract for operating the service.
The petitioner cited the conditions placed by the company to those wanting to be absorbed in the new company, stating that the salary being offered is nearly half of the salary they were getting.
On top of this, they should be ready to work anywhere. The petitioner had stated that he is ready to work anywhere but the salary should be as it was earlier. After hearing the case, the high court issued necessary directions to the medical and health secretary before disposing of the case.
