Continuing his hectic political activity, the former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat has decided to hold a fast on September 1. He would hold the day long fast at his residence in Dehradun to highlight the plight of the unemployed. In a facebook post the former CM said that it is depressing that about one Crore people have lost their jobs and the number of unemployed in Uttarakhand is also very high.

“The Covid-19 pandemic generated unemployment has broken the backs of people and depression prevails among the youth. Many young men have committed suicide in recent times,’’ he said. Criticizing the state government Rawat said that it is doing nothing to fill the vacant posts and the Mukhyamantri Self employment scheme is failing to get implemented on ground.

He said that after the fast, he would hold a foot march in the areas of Ranipur and Sitarganj SIIDCULs to create an environment of awareness against unemployment.

On Independence Day Rawat had undertaken a Triranga Yatra on a bullock cart in Haridwar district. For this Yatra, the former CM travelled on Dhandera- Luxar road to highlight the pathetic condition of the roads ahead of the Kumbh of next year.

Three Congress MLAs from Haridwar district, Qazi Nizamuddin, Mamta Rakesh and Furkan Ahmed accompanied Rawat in the Yatra which drew a very good response.

The former CM and his supporters even planted paddy in the potholed road to underline the condition of the roads.
