Haridwar: Two teens held for 'killing' friend for his cell phone

Haridwar police have arrested two teenagers — Subham and Vaibhav — for having allegedly killed his friend Abhishekh to procure his costly mobile phone on Thursday. The pre-meditated murder occurred in Gangnahar police station area, Roorkee in Haridwar district. The incident has outraged the collective sentiment of the people of the State. “Such kind of things is rare here in the State. Students killing a friend as per a pre-meditated plot to secure the latter’s cell phone is simply horrendous,” said a resident of the place where the accused reside in.

Haridwar SP Rural Pramendra Dobhal said that Abhishekh was studying in Class XI in BSM Inter College, Roorkee while Subham and Vaibhav are in Class XII in the same school. Recently, Abhishekh’s family members had given him a costly cell phone. Subham and Vaibhav had made a plan to snatch the mobile phone to pay off their debt to a local mobile shop-owner. Without informing their parents, the trio had gone to the forest area in their locality riding a bike on Tuesday night. As per the plan, Subham and Vaibhav did Abhiskhek in by hitting him with stones in what can be called a cold-blooded murder.

In his written complaint, the deceased’s father Gopal Singh, resident of Sainik Colony, Roorkee, stated that his son Abshikshek had been kidnapped by Shubham. Taking cognisance of this, a case under Section 286 of IPC was registered in the Gangnahar Police Station on Wednesday.

Acting on the complaint, police quizzed the accused and based on what they said during the interrogation, the deceased’s body was recovered from the forest area near Sonali bridge. Police later inspected the spot and collected relevant evidences, it is learnt. The body has been sent for

post-mortem. The report is being awaited.
