With the International Yoga Day approaching, the Haridwar district administration, left in cold sweat for some time to ensure an appropriately mammoth turnout from the district for the mega event to be attended by none other than the Prime Minister on June 21, is slowly rising up to the challenge. An awareness rally would be taken out from Haridwar railway station to Har Ki Paidi from 4 pm on June 17.
The district administration claimed that over 20,000 people would participate in the programme from the district alone out of the estimated 50,000 turnout from the state. A statement issued by the district information officer said that the objective of the rally is to urge people of Haridwar to mark their presence at the programme with maximum participation. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Prem Nagar ashram run by the Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj who is also in- charge of the district is going all-out to meet the challenge of ensuring a significant participation of people, including the yoga trainers from different Yoga institutes based in the district.
The event would be preceded by two rehearsals slated on 18 and 19 June, say the officials. They affirm that some 20,000 people from the district would attend the programme at FRI while an estimated 50,000 people are likely to be there from across the State.
Haridwar being the district which houses most of the ashrams and Yoga institutes in the State, the State Government’s turnout expectation from the district is justified, said a senior district administration officer.
It is, further, learnt that most of the industrial associations from SIIDCUl and Haridwar have already completed their registration processes for the June 21 event at FRI. The list that has been submitted to the ADM lalit Narayan Mishra by SIIDCUl Industrial Association contains 3197 names.
"We asked the people to come up with their identity details and photo. After their offline data filing was completed the online registrations were done. Subsequently, confirmations were sent on their individual mobile numbers," said Mishra.
He further said that around 12000 submissions have been received by the department and they included those from Brahmakumaris, Art of living, Shantikunj and Patanjali Yog Peeth. “We have still 5000 offline registrations,” added ADM.
