Haridwar City MlA Madan Kaushik alleged that the recent stabbings have exposed the level of insensitivity harboured by policemen towards their work. Kaushik said, “The failure of the police can be evidenced from the fact that only about 50 metres from the police post, three persons were assaulted by four men with knives resulting in two deaths on the spot but the police failed to transport the victims to a hospital for about half an hour after the incident. This incident has exposed police’s claim of providing full security to the people of the district. For about half an hour, the three victims had cried for help but police post personnel did not admit them in the local hospital. This had resulted in two of them dying on the spot. Passers by had informed 108 ambulance and then the third victim was admitted in the hospital,” said the MlA.

He further alleged that Haridwar SSP Sweety Aggarwal has not reached the incident site since this incident had come to light and had instead gone on leave. He demanded from the state government to give financial assistance of `10 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The deceased  belonged to scheduled caste and they were the sole earning members of their family. A job should also be provided to one member of each family, he added.

Kaushik said that crime cases are on the rise across the state but there has been an alarming increase in crime cases in Haridwar district. The Haridwar police have failed to provide security to the people of the district. Considerable numbers of crimes -murder, loot, burglary, kidnapping and others are being reported on a routine basis. The criminals do not appear to have any fear of the police or the law, he added. It should be mentioned here that following the stabbing on Saturday night, `4.50 lakh were looted from a shop in Shivaliknagar under Ranipur police station area in Haridwar on Sunday noon.
