Haridwar’s Mahanagar Congress Committee has lashed out at the BJP Government on the latter’s completion of 100 days in office, dubbing it as an anti -people Government. The common refrain of their criticism is that it has doubled the prices of cereal, wheat and rice – the principal food grains that make the staple food of the people- aside from hiking the rates of electricity, water and sewerage facilities over its past 100 days. They also said that the facilities that were available at the district hospitals during the previous regime are not being provided to the patients now with the State Government being apathetic to their plight. Besides, they have taken a dig at the BJP government for firming up a pro- liquor mafia excise policy.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the district coordinator of the Mahanagar Congress Committee Haridwar Sanjay Agarwal said, “The state Government has doubled the price of rice from Rs 9 to Rs 15 per kg that is being provided to the people from the ration shops. The same is the case with wheat whose price has been hiked from Rs 4 to Rs 8.60 per kg. The Centre has proved even more ruthless to the poor by stopping the subsidy given to them on sugar and kerosene.” He further said that the state government has reduced the quantity of food items given under ‘Khadyan’ scheme initiated by the previous Congress government, making it difficult for the poor to run their families.
“In a span of 100 days, the BJP Government has revised twice the rates of electricity, water and sewer facility aside from curtailing the medical facilities for the poor,” said Agarwal.
Tearing into the state government on its excise policy, he said that it is out to help the liquor mafias to get into the villages. “Despite the women of the state spearheading a movement to stop booze vends from getting into their localities, the state government is helping the mafias to spread out in the villages too. Raising the target of the excise revenue exposes the intention of the State Government,” he added.
