A section of Haridwar district BJP leadership remains opposed to the proposed shifting of the city bus stand to Transport Nagar in Sarai village. A letter is learnt to have been written to the State Government on the matter.
According to them, the plot of land earmarked for the bus stand in Transport Nagar should be handed over to Mandi Samiti in Jwalapur.
Speaking on the matter, chairman of Mandi Samiti Sanjay Chopra said that the plot of land adjacent to Mandi Samiti, meant to house the bus stand, should be handed over to the samiti.
“This is an impertive as the number of shops is much less here than what it should be. The number of contractors is rising, but the number of shops is not increasing proportionately. If we get the 20 bigha land earmarked for the bus stand we would set up shops there and would pay the required expenses,” he said, adding that he would soon meet the chief minister to convince him of the correctness of their stance on the matter.
Mention worthy, the proposal for shifting the bus stand to Sarai village is facing roadblocks as different segments of the people are against it. However, the people of Jwalapur are pitching for the shifting. The local traders are the most vociferous in their opposition to the proposal as they fear to incur losses if the proposal of shifting the bus stand is executed.
