Haridwar arranges for bonfires to beat cold

Published on:

Haridwar received rainfall a few days ago, followed by dense fog and intense cold, forcing people to shut themselves indoors. Compounding on the problems, all the major trains are also arriving late.

The hilly regions of the State received fresh snowfall last Sunday, resulting in a remarkable dip in the mercury. Roads remaining buried under snow, many areas have lost connection with snow. As for Haridwar, bonfires at various places like railway station, bus station, main crossroads, have been readied to beat the cold. However, despite the intense cold sending them to shiver, bonfire arrangements have been made at only four locations-two shelter homes, one at the railway station and at bus station.

Important public places like Rishikul Chauraha, laltaru Pull, and Brahmpuri, are still awaiting the promised bonfires. Rickshaw pullers and roadside vendors are bearing the brunt of things with the authorities not taking bonfire  initiatives.
