A few weeks left for the election of the President of India, an advocate based in Haridwar city has filed his nomination for the highest Constitutional post of the country.
A 50-year-old advocate Ajay Kumar Gupta, a practitioner in district courts of Haridwar, who had earlier unsuccessfully fought 2013 civic polls for the post of mayor, has filed his nomination for the ensuing Presidential election. Speaking to The Pioneer, Gupta said that the constitutional provisions being trashed by successive regimes, the post of the President has assumed immense importance. “If elected, I would try to be a people-friendly President dedicated to the cause of the common people. The system must be changed from within,” he said. On the issue of whip being issued by the political parties for the Presidential polls, he said issuing such whip is unconstitutional, adding that he would challenge the matter in the Supreme Court.
