Highly infuriated over the manhandling and misbehaviour by the police personnel in the last month, retired naval officer and  doctor, Dr BK Nautiyal has registered a case in the Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission after he was allegedly mentally and physically harassed by the city police.

Taking the cognizance of the complaint lodged by him, the Commission summoned SSP, Kewal Khurana, SHO and Nehru Colony Police station to register their statements. After listening to both parties, the Commission has set November, 12 for the next day of hearing.

According to Dr Nautiyal, he was forcefully stopped by a woman Home Guard while he was coming from the market on his two wheeler after attending urgent piece of work on September 30.  He alleged that he was forcefully detained and physically and mentally harassed by the Nehru Colony police station for more than eight hours without having any charges.

According to Dr Nautiyal, he was neither challaned nor the certificate of registration of the two wheeler which he was riding at the time of incident was checked by the police personnel. Even after repeated requests, the complainant was detained in the police station. Dr Nautiyal also alleged that he was forced to give Rs 10,000 as bribe for being released.

Taking cognizance of the complaint lodged by him, Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission has summoned the police personnel on Friday but SSP was given liberty not to attend owing to President of India’s visit to capital city. In a move to register the position of the city police personnel, Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission has set November, 12 for the next hearing to register the statements of the parties.
