Half of last year's student voters to be barred from current polls

Due to the cap on admissions in DAV (PG) College, around half of the total number of voters who had cast votes in last year’s students’ union election will be barred from participating in the college’s democratic engagement this year.   The students’ union election is scheduled to be held in the college on September 10.

It should be mentioned here that college had released a list where around 20, 000 students had figured as voters last year. After completion of the admission process, the college may release a list where around 10, 000 students would figure as voters this year due to cap on admissions.

DAV (PG) College principal, Devendra Bhasin said though the Government has planned to introduce evening classes a lot needs to be done to start them. The students who would be admitted in the evening classes may not be able to cast votes in this year’s election. Maybe, they would do so from next year, he added.

Meanwhile, Anshul Chawla, former college students’ union president, expressed disappointment as large number of students will be left outside the realm of the college’s democratic engagement this year.
