The birthday of the former PM AB Vajpayee was celebrated as Sushashan Diwas (good governance day) also at the meeting hall of Srinagar Garhwal Municipal Council at Srinagar on Thursday. The Sushashan Divas was celebrated in Srinagar Garhwal where the leaders and the office bearers of BJP from five districts participated. Garhwal MP  and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj. General (retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri inaugurated by lighting the inaugural lamp.

Addressing the party workers gathered at the meeting, Khanduri said Bharat Ratna should have been bestowed  on Vajpayee many years back, given the magnitude of his contribution to nation-building. He is still a beacon for them to move ahead, he said. During the NDA regime, Atalji facilitated   the formation of Uttarakhand, ignoring  opposition from one of the constituents of the coalition government.

He was also instrumental in providing  the fledgling State  with an economic package.  But the Congress- led UPA government curtailed it, Khanduri said. He further said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working under the inspiration of Vajpayee.
