Haldwani reels under drinking water crisis

Published on:

Drinking water crisis being reported from one part of the Haldwani city or the other even during the rainy season has become a routine affair.

The matter of concern is that though  MlA from Haldwani Indira Hridayesh who has been representing this seat for long, assures people to smoothen the drinking water services on priority basis , much has not been changed on this drinking water front here.

Keeping in view poor drinking water services of her constituency, Hridayesh has, however, reassured the people that the old drinking water distribution system of Haldwani would be replaced at a war-footing basis so that smooth drinking water services could be provided to the people.

She has also directed the officials concerned of jal sasthan and jal nigam to submit proposals to smoothen drinking water services of Talli Bamori of her constituency within 10 days.

But the fact is that due to the same old drinking water system drinking water services in Rajpuar and its adjacent areas presently remain disrupted for many days.

It is to note that Haldwani  still depends on an over five decade old drinking water distribution system then designed to cater to only about 50,000 people.

Now the population of this city has gone upto five lakh. But little has been done to upgrade the existing drinking water distribution system   except assurances given by the public representatives to improve the same, alleged Pradeep Semwal, a resident of Haldwani.

Moreover, due to excessive dependence on tube wells to meet the drinking water demand, when a tube well goes out of order, it takes the officials concerned of the jal sasthan at least one  month time to rectify the faulty tube well.

The matter of concern is  public representatives talks to make the city modern and promise to construct modern and international standard sports stadium and flyovers to ease vehicular traffic, but they have not been to able to smoothen the long pending drinking water problem of her constituency,   Semwal further said.

More so, the public representatives  assure to smoothen the basic services during the election time every time. But they seem little concerned  later about the execution of what they promise, he added.
