The State is likely to receive about Rs 1,700 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) out of which about Rs 340 crore are likely to be allocated for Haldwani. Considering this, the Haldwani mayor Jogendra Pal Singh Rautela recently chaired a meeting with officials regarding ADB assisted schemes. Water supply and sewerage schemes for the city were discussed in detail in the meeting. The mayor directed that survey work be expedited for various developmental works in the city.
It was stated that considering the limited water storage capacity in Haldwani, it is vital to identify vacant land where the construction of underground and overhead water tanks can be considered. Rautela said that construction of underground water tank at Khandelwal park should also be considered. Various other aspects of water storage and supply were also discussed in the meeting. Officials concerned were directed to draft plans for providing sewer network in areas bereft of the same so far. A sewer networking masterplan will also be drafted. A review meeting would be held in a fortnight to check progress on these issues.
