The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and Pradeshik Sanskrit Shikshit Prashikshit Berozgar Sangh (PSSPBS) have requested Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul to order an immediate stop on the appointment procedure for posts of professors in the Uttarakhand Sanskrit University and to order an inquiry into allegations made against the university Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahavir Agrawal. A 40-page memorandum along with proof of anomalies in the university was submitted by members of UKD and PSSPBS to the governoron Thursday.
Addressing the media, UKD leader Manmohan lakhera alleged that the academic documents of Prof Agrawal are dubious. “Information related to the Uttarakhand Sanskrit University vice chancellor had been sought under the RTI Act separately from the Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalay and Raj Bhawan secretariat but in both the cases, the applicants were provided letters related to Agrawal not giving his mark sheets.
This clearly points to the dubious nature of the vice chancellors academic qualifications and since the VC heads the university’s selection committee, it is vital for questions related to his academic qualifications be answered. The university is marred by anomalies due to which it has diverted away from the guiding principles behind its creation.
We are demanding that only traditional subjects be taught here. In the first place, appointment of Agrawal to the post of this university’s VC raises questions at the system considering that written complaints against him were made to the Raj Bhawan in 2007 and 2009. The appointment procedure in the university is not transparent and instead of being kept traditional, the curriculum is being altered with modern subjects to facilitate appointments of people with connections,” said lakhera.
He also said that the appointment procedure should be stopped immediately and not resumed till the existing inquiry into allegations is completed. PSSBS head Manoj Sharma said that if the appointment procedure is not stopped, the PSSBS will start a protest movement after a week along with UKD and various student organisations.
