In a significant development, Uttarakhand Governor Dr KK Paul on whom all eyes are now riveted, has written a letter to the Centre in which he is supposed to have mentioned what had transpired in the Uttarakhand Assembly on March 18. He is said to have cited the fact that 35 MlAs, including those from the BJP and the Congress, had visited Rajbhawan late Friday night.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Harish Rawat continues with his move to clip the wings of the rebel Congress MlAs and those close to them. He has his focus pointed on former CM Vijay Bahuguna and former Cabinet Minister Harak Singh Rawat.
Aside from dismissing Harak Singh Rawat and advocate general UK Uniyal, who is the elder brother of dissident
MlA Subodh Uniyal, he has terminated terms of a few Daayitvadharis, including Ravindra Anand, who had been given political posts in a bid to appease their political mentor, Bahuguna. The same has happened to Saket Bahuguna, the son of Bahuguna.
Political observers say that the embattled Chief Minister is out to wreak vengeance on the dissidents. He is not trusting anybody after what has happened to him on March 18. Surprisingly, the enraged Chief Minister himself had raided the office of former Cabinet Minister Harak Singh Rawat and asked the officials to seal the room in his presence.
Things, going to absurdity with rage getting the better of discretion, might cost the ruling party dearly in the upcoming Assembly election whenever it is held, say observers.
"The Chief Minister himself seems to be presiding over the destruction of the party he is leading in the State. Instead of remaining dignified in the face of the worst crisis that has befallen his Government, he is going unabashedly for vendetta politics. It means a defeatist mindset, as if he has acknowledged defeat days before the crucial floor test is held. The party High Command should step in before the damage turns irreparable," said a State watcher.
