To mark the World Earth Day, Uttarakhand Governor Dr K K Paul planted saplings of pomegranate and other shade-giving trees at the Raj Bhawan on Saturday.
On the occasion, he called upon the people to try all means to keep the earth green to maintain the environmental balance. Everyone must be sensitive regarding the earth which fulfils the needs of all living beings, he said. The entire world was nowadays concerned over the ill -effects caused by the unbalanced and unchecked exploitation of natural resources, he said, adding that natural disasters like drought and flood were becoming recurring problems.
“We must resolve to save the earth from all kinds of pollution and keep it clean and green. Forests must be increased to keep the environment pure. The earth needs to also be protected from chemicals which pollute and poison our rivers. Planting trees would check the rising temperatures and falling water level,” he said, exhorting the people to show respect for the earth.
