To show empathy with the cause the MP has been championing, Uttarakhand Governor Dr KK Paul and Chief Minister Harish Rawat visited Tarun Vijay on Saturday at the private hospital in Dehradun where he had been admitted. They enquired about his health condition and lent full support to him in his fight against caste discrimination still persisting over entry of Dalit people in certain temples in the State.
Governor Paul condemned the incident and said that police should arrest those involved in the attack on the MP and Dalit community people. Taking suo moto initiative, Tehsildar Chakrata Daulat Das has registered a complaint and a case under sections 147/148/324/332/504/506/427 of IPC was registered against unidentified persons in revenue police post.
Tehsildar Das said that revenue police had conducted raids at various places in the area. However, no arrest has been made so far, he admitted. He expressed hope that those involved in this attack would be arrested soon.
Notably, Vijay and some persons from the Dalit community were injured after they were attacked at Shilgur Devta Temple by some temple committee members and local devotees on their reaching the temple to offer prayer on Friday noon. Vijay was admitted at Chakrata based Military hospital and was later referred to higher centre in Dehradun.
After meeting the MP, Chief Minister Rawat said that State Government would provide him all possible medical facilities. He assured that his Government would do everything to provide him with the best treatment whether in Dehradun or in Delhi or any other place.
Terming the incident an unfortunate one, CM said that it was reprehensible. All should condemn it in strong terms, he said. He had ordered a Garhwal commissioner level probe into the incident on Friday soon after the news of the violence at the temple reached him.
