In his message to the public on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Independence Day, Uttarakhand Governor Krishan Kant Paul greeted the public including the armed forces, guarding the nation’s borders.
He stated, “This day is an occasion for expressing our gratefulness and tribute to the countless known and unknown patriots who with their difficult struggle, staunch belief, sacrifice and ideal leadership, helped us achieve independence. This day is also for the citizens to make a public commitment towards building the India of their dreams.
“We will also have to remember Bapu’s principles. We will have to express our gratefulness to Dr Ambedkar and the great thinkers who provided a strong foundation for the nation. We have achieved political independence but without the establishment of moral, spiritual and human values, we cannot exemplify real freedom,” said the Governor.
He further elicited focus on the challenge of facilitating the establishment of a social democracy, stressed that only by facilitating this will all sections of society undertake joint efforts to take the nation ahead.
Paul stressed, “Until we are able to ensure that women and people from weaker sections of society also receive equal opportunities for progressing ahead, we will not have facilitated democracy in its entirety. Nurturing freedom and its values, responsibility and nurturing it with moral values is a major responsibility and challenge. On this golden occasion, we will also have to ponder on what contribution we are making as good citizens towards maintaining the freedom gained by penance of great personalities and to convert their proactive dreams into reality,” added the governor in his message to the public.
