Guv nod for Uttarakhand Ayurveda University

Taking cognizance on 'The Pioneer' report dated December 18, 2014, Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi has approved the file of Uttaranchal Ayurveda University and appointed former PCS member KD Bhatt as his nominee for the selection committee, who will make fresh recruit or promote the existing staff to fill the post of faculty by the deadline CCIM has set. Besides, the Governor has also given a six -month extension to the Vice-

Chancellor, who is slated to retire by January 16, 2015 'or till fresh recruitment'. If the faculty-recruitment standoff between Ayurveda University and its chancellor drags on Rishikul and Gurukul Ayurveda Colleges would not be able to beget 125 Ayurveda doctors for each of  the next three years.

In the current academic year-2014-15, Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) had given conditional permission in view of the University having promised to fulfil the necessary requirements right before the next academic year 2015-16 begins. The impasse has landed the students' careers in jeopardy. In all, 125 students- 60 from Rishikul Ayurveda Medical College and 65 from Gurukul Ayurveda Medical College, including 50 under- graduate and 15 post- graduate students- would not be  able to pursue their career in Ayurveda for the next three years if  things remain in a fix.

The nub of the story is that these two colleges would be stopped from producing 375 doctors for the next three years if the logjam is not resolved. Talking to 'The Pioneer', Additional Secretary GB Oli said that the approval would clear the decks for the college faculty requirement being met through promotion. To fulfil CCIM criteria before the team visits, the existing teaching faculty would be promoted, he added.
