The progress achieved in the information technology sector has also brought about a major change in library science. The current trend of information technology in society is a very big challenge for libraries and library professionals. To tackle this challenge, the libraries need to be re-established as information repository, said the Uttarakhand governor Krishan Kant Paul. The governor said this while speaking at the seventh National Conference of Central Government library Association (CGlA) on “Connecting Minds, Creating future: The Paradigm Shift”at Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy here on Tuesday.
The governor said that in this time of ever-changing identity, it is vital for saving oneself to satisfy the current generation and information users. “In the present time, the children and youth generation are getting distant from books which is a big challenge facing libraries. In such a scenario, it is vital ensure that the people comprehend the importance of reading books and continue to read books. The joy found in reading actual books cannot be had in digital books,” he said.
The governor further said that in order to develop India into a knowledge-based society, educational libraries will have to change their form and face new challenges to fullfil expectations.
