Governor of Uttarakhand Dr Aziz Qureshi said that the unity in diversity and inter-communal harmony is the fulcrum on which quintessential India stands and India continues to fascinate the world because of this peerless legacy she embodies. He was addressing the poets’ congregation as the chief guest on the occasion of Sharadotsav in the lake city of Nainital.
Hailing the role of the poets in the society, he said they enlighten the people and the State with ideas. “Their role in course of the freedom movement was exemplary. Aside from the galaxy of stalwarts like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawahar lal Nehru and Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel, striding across the political realm, the poets, on their part, inspired the people by composing patriotic poems and songs. The poets also influenced the realms of socio-cultural and religious life of Uttarakhand profoundly in myriad ways,” he said. He laid stress on honing the latent talents in the people of the State by way of encouragement.
Several poets participated in the congregation. The internationally famous poet, Afzal Mangolori anchored the poets’ meet.
