The education system should be such that it should develop skills among students so that when they pass out of institutions, they are full of confidence and ready to do their best for the society,” said Dr KK Paul, Governor/Chancellor of Uttarakhand while addressing the fourth meeting of Doon University’s Court. In the current context, the biggest challenge was to make higher education job-oriented. Presenting figures related to a survey done on the selection of suitable applicants in the IT industry and Management sphere from 2012 to 2014, the Governor said it was found that our education system was lacking in access, equity and quality and this had a direct effect on education, employment and empowerment.
Keeping this in mind, universities should focus on quality education and promote courses that are in accordance with the demand of the employment world. Appreciating the progress and achievements made by the Doon University in a short while, the Governor stressed the university must give prominence to inter-disciplinary studies, research and communication, creating new programmes that would boost the practical and professional skills of youth. Only then, the university would be known as a centre for excellence.
The annual report (2013-14) of the university was presented by vice-chancellor, prof VK Jain. He focused on the plans and achievements of the university. The finance controller gave the financial analysis for the period. Several important suggestions were given by the well–known experts present in the meeting.
