Guv backs EQ as key to successful life

The university pass-outs should focus to develop Emotional Quotient (EQ) as it would help them in good stead in their professional lives, said the Governor of Uttarakhand, Dr KK Paul while delivering a valedictory speech at ‘Toppers Conclave’ in Raj Bhawanon Friday.Exhorting the toppers of different Universities to connect with their work and colleagues, the Governor said that development of Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of a person gets complete by the time one crosses the twenties but the Emotional Quotient (EQ) continued to grow as one matured and for this reason, EQ is more important than IQ.

He stressed that one could be a genius with an IQ of over 160 and yet might not succeed as a leader if one didn’t get along with people and therefore could not be a team leader.The Governor called upon the students to become smart, develop a strong digital personality. He said that they speak up and not miss any opportunity to present themselves.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat congratulated the Governor to conceptualize ‘Toppers Conclave’ and bring it into reality. He said that the students should accept the challenges and adopt themselves accordingly. Expressing concern on quality of education despite of the fact that the state has large number of universities and large expenditure on education, the CM requested the Vice Chancellors (VC) to ponder over the issue which is very serious. He suggested that the universities of state should adopt one or two Intermediate colleges each and help them to develop into centres of excellence.

The Governor and Chief Minister felicitated the toppers of different universities on the occasion. Tanya Shah of Kumaon University and Sweta Pokhriyal of Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry Bharsar received special prize for being best speakers among were honoured on the occasion. Earlier the Vice Chancellor of Kumaon University, H S Dhami told about the activities that were carried out during the five day conclave.The VC of GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) Dr Managla Rai, VC of Doon University V K Jain, VC of Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) P K Garg and others were present on the occasion.
