Guest teachers to continue to protest against Govt

Not satisfied by the State Government’s proposal to initiate a fresh district wise recruitment process for guest teachers for filling vacant posts of teachers in Government schools, the Association of Guest teachers has decided to continue their agitation. The Governor of Uttarakhand KK Paul on Monday had directed the education department to initiate a district wise recruitment drive for the guest teachers.

The Vice President of the association, Harish Arya said that the more than 6,000 guest teachers are feeling let down by the decision. “ We were appointed by a proper process of appointment in which 6214 teachers were appointed last year. Now the government would initiate a fresh process to recruit guest teachers for 2000 odd posts of teachers which is unacceptable to us. We would continue and intensify our agitation till we all are reappointed,’’ he asserted.

Meanwhile at the protest site 14 agitating members of the association started a hunger strike to press for their demand. A delegation of members also tried meeting the Governor but could not meet him till the time of filling the story.

The media advisor of Former Chief minister Harish Rawat, Surendra Kumar visited the agitation site on Tuesday and handed over a letter of former CM in which he has expressed full support for the guest teachers.

In the letter Rawat said that he has requested the Governor that the services of more than 6000 guest teachers should be retained by the education department. Rawat said that these teachers were appointed on a stipend of `15,000 per month so that studies are not affected in the Government schools of the State due to absence of teachers.
