Demanding their appointment as contractual teachers, scores of guest teachers under the banner of Government Higher Secondary Guest Teachers Union staged agitation at the Secretariat on Tuesday. Administration deployed police forces to maintain peace at the site of the agitation.
Manesh, one of the agitating guest teachers, said that despite their staging stir for the past many days, no action has been taken to redress their grievances. “There has been shortage of teachers in the Government schools, especially those located in mountainous parts of the State. Education is being adversely affected in the schools of hills on account of the shortage of teachers. People of the State are anguished over the unjust removal of the contractual teachers,” he said, adding that they would further intensify their protest in the coming days unless their demands were met.
