After meeting Chief Minister Harish Rawat, the association of Government school guest teachers has agreed to end its stir. A delegation of the guest teachers met Rawat at
his residence on late Sunday night where the CM assured them the State Government would adjust them in the schools of the State as per the directive of the State High Court (HC). He said that the Government Order (GO) for their reinstatement would be soon released.
The State vice-president of the association Harish Arya said that the members of the association have decided to end their agitation. He added that the association
would make a formal announcement once the GO is released. Arya claimed that the CM has assured that the State Government would again take up the issue of guest teachers in the HC.
Arya said that thousands of guest teachers who worked dedicatedly in the schools of the State are in a state of depression as they are
without jobs for more than five months now. “many of us had left our earlier jobs and joined as guest teachers now jobless for five months, depression has set in which is manifested in the suicide by three guest teachers,’’ he said.
The education department had employed 6,214 guest teachers on purely temporary basis against the vacant posts of lecturers and lecturer Teachers (lT) in the Government schools last year.
On March 31 this year the department terminated their contract following which these teachers started an agitation. When the Congress Government was restored in the State, it passed a GO for reinstatement of these teachers.
This GO was contested in the court which rendered the entire process of recruitment of guest teachers as unconstitutional. The court however said that the government can appointment these teachers till March 17, if its wishes.
