lauding the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, passed by the Rajya Sabha, the State BJP chief and leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt said on Thursday that it would be counted as a major achievement of the BJP-led NDA Government. “We are sure that Uttarakhand will reap its benefits substantially in future as well,” he said.
“We are happy that the Rajya Sabha has unanimously passed the GST amendment bill. It is doubtless a great achievement for BJP because now one nation one tax would be applicable across the country. Uttarakhand would derive its benefit too in the process. We thank the Prime Minister and Finance Minster for this,” Bhatt said.
He further said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a great vision for the welfare of Uttarakhand and the bill would contribute substantially to the overall progress of the State. “Both the people and the traders would be benefitted. Now, multiple tax system will reduce and the people would get great relief from different taxes slapped in different places. Besides, a few items would be removed from the tax regime as well. This augurs well for one and all,” he said.
“It was a dream. But now one nation one tax is set to turn a reality. Now, the new system would have one name, one form and one payment so that traders would get relief from the multiple tax regime. With this, trading would be easy and it would subsequently boost the GDP. Once the GDP surges northward the State would automatically stand to benefit,” the State BJP chief said.
“Besides, it would reduce corruption. The system would be eased of the inspector regime to the great relief of the traders,” he said.
“There are other positive aspects of the development as with the implementation of GST, the Centre would give special amount to the States, including Uttarakhand. We are sure that our State would get more in comparison to others. The State would be rather doubly benefitted. State people would get benefit as they will have to pay only one set of tax while the State as a whole would get additional benefit,” Bhatt said.
He also said that national unity will be strengthened by the application of a single system across the country. “It will strengthen the federal system as well as the mutual relation between the Centre and the states would considerably improve,” he added.
