A Green Energy Fair organised jointly by WWF-India and the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) was inaugurated at Government junior high school, Rajpur Road by Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO) head Anil Joshi.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Joshi asked the school students whether they knew about renewable energy. Stating that the Government will have to take concrete measures to boost solar energy generation in the State, he also spoke about power generation from traditional water mills.
Talking about the Green Energy Fair, WWF India Terai Arc landscape head Dr Harish Guleria said, “Renewable energy solutions are becoming increasing affordable and easily accessible for individuals today. However, the uptake amongst individuals is slow. This fair aims to simplify the message of renewable energy, and showcase how individuals can adopt such solutions into their lives to lead sustainable lifestyles.”
This two-day fair is aimed at promoting simple and practical renewable energy solutions for individuals and institutions to adopt in their lives to reduce their impact on the environment. This event is part of WWF’s global campaign, Seize Your Power, which calls upon governments, institutions and individuals to act immediately and make the transition to renewable energy so the future is powered by the sun, wind and water.
