The efforts of the parents to resist the autocratic ways of the private schools of the city have started yielding results.
On Tuesday, the management of GRD academy bowed to the demand of the parents association and reduced the annual fees.
The Uttarakhand Parents association had recently made its units in some of the prominent schools of the city.
On Tuesday, the members of the association met the principal of GRD academy located in Niranjanpur and demanded that the school should revise the hike in the annual fees.
The school had raised its annual fees from Rs4,000 to Rs5,000 this year prompting the anger of the parents.
The president of the parents association of GRD academy school Rajiv Sharma told The Pioneer that after detailed talks the management decided to limit the hike to Rs300 against the proposed Rs1,000.
Sharma said that the association also asked the management to introduce National Council of Research and Training (NCERT) books in the school as they are very cheap and better in content.
He said the talks were held in a conducive manner.
Sharma said that schools are now realising the resentment in the common people about their autocratic ways.
The members of the association of the St Mary’s school also met the school management and registered their protest on the increase in fees, seeking money in the name of building charges and frequent changes in school uniform pattern. The association threatened to launch an agitation if the school fails to take action on their demands.
The State president of parents association Niraj Singhal told The Pioneer that fees revision though small is a victory for the parents who were feeling cheated by the ways of the private schools.
He said that parents of many schools are shedding their inhibition and forming association in their schools.
