A day after the second instance of a transporter committing suicide in Dehradun due to financial issues, former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat blamed the policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party Government for pushing farmers and businessmen to desperation. Considering the budget session of the Vidhan Sabha to be held next month, he said that the State Government should come up with a budget which provides relief to sections of society that have suffered more due to the effects of government policies.
Addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan here on Thursday, Rawat said that earlier transporter Prakash Pandey had committed suicide and recently another transporter Balwant Bhatt had also committed suicide due to financial woes. He said that farmers had also committed suicide due to issues which had been caused by flaws in government policies. The State budget is also slated to be presented in the near future. In its budget, the state government should focus on providing relief to sectors which have been affected negatively like the agriculture sector, he added. The Kedarnath MlA Manoj Rawat and other party office bearers were also present on the occasion.
