Govt to share cost of ponds to conserve water

Published on:

In a significant move to conserve  water, the Cabinet has decided to duly motivate  the people and the entrepreneurs  by   giving  them water bonus.  This is part of the campaign being run by  the State Government in the matter.

The entrepreneur can be individual or group either in Gram Panchayat or Van Panchayat or NGO. For the conservation of water, if they construct ponds as per the norms laid down by  the State Govt,  the Government would give one portion of the total cost to them as motivation fund. In the next year, they would be given water bonus on the basis of availability of water from the newly-constructed pond. If the pond is being constructed through dovetailing  they would be given one-third of the total cost as motivation fund and if they construct by using their own means the Government would give them 40 percent of the total cost.

For the confirmation of water bonus, the officials will visit the ponds and survey how much water has been stored  aside from ascertaining the ground water recharge.

For this, a committee will be constituted and the committee will make physical verification of water reservoir and they will submit how water has been stored there. The water supply department officials will be made accountable. The Government will also make budgetary provision for the scheme.  Furthermore, if the pond  is made through dovetailing or made through the diggers'  own resources the Government would increase funds for them in the  district plans concerned.
