Govt teachers defy dress code, demand salary hike

Published on:

Venting resentment over the State Government having enforced a dress code for the teachers of the Government-run schools from August 1, the teaching staffers  of the schools located in   Dhanori area came to the schools without donning the dress code- directed attire on Tuesday. Notably, the State Government had sent circulars to the schools, asking the  male teachers to wear light blue shirt with steel grey trousers and the female teachers to wear light blue sarees or suits.

The chairman of Uttarakhand Primary Teachers’ Association Manoj Chauhan said, “Unless our long pending demands are met we would not comply with the dress code order. A delegation of our members would meet the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on August 8. The issues of enhanced pay structure and timely annual promotions would figure during the meeting.”

A teacher Kiran Sharma said that the  teachers have not been provided with allowances for going for the new dresses. “The  State Government should focus more  on improving quality of education through firming up the required infrastructure instead of indulging in flippancy over the dress code,” she added.
