Govt sitting on CM's assurance, allege sanitation workers' union

Akhil Bhartiya Safai Majdoor Sangh (ABSMS) president Rajesh Kumar alleged that despite a month having passed since the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat assured a hike in the daily wages of the sanitation workers after they went on a strike , nothing has happened so far.

Talking to The Pioneer on Friday, Kumar said that the sanitation workers had stayed away from duty for around a fortnight to press their demands for a hike in their daily wages to make them at par with the State’s minimum wages. “With the strike continuing, the CM held a meeting with  the union leaders and agreed to raise the daily wages. However, one month has passed since the CM assured the same, but nothing has happened so far to have the CM’s assurance executed into action. The workers are again turning restive,” he said.

He, further, said that they wonder why the Govt has been dithering on the matter. “As per our knowledge, no paperwork has been done on the matter. The salary structure of many of the workers  remains unchanged. We do not know what is happening in the Government. The patience of the workers is wearing thin with the State Government allowing things to hang fire,” he said.

Kumar said that they had met the State Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik on the matter. “He suggested us to wait till June 24 and promised that a meeting with the urban development secretary would be held to sort out the matter. We would wait till then as we still repose confidence in the State Government. However, in case the State fails to act on the CM’s assurance we would meet again to chalk out our future strategy of action. We would not allow the Govt to do injustice to us,” he warned.
