Opining on the illegal operation of Bhandaribagh slaughterhouse in the city, Gauri Maulekhi of People For Animals (PFA) stated that as per the rules, the Government should regulate the slaughterhouses instead of owning them.

Talking to The Pioneer, Maulekhi said, “The Bhandaribagh slaughterhouse does not match the standards as per the rules and its operation should be stopped. This is a money making business. As per the law, the Government should not operate this. The solution to this is that it should be given to private firms and Government authorities should regulate it.”

She further said, “Government should not make any slaughterhouse as it is a total waste of public money. The project should be given to private firms. Also, Union minister Maneka Gandhi has written a letter to the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat stating that that Government should not be involved in making of slaughterhouses.”
