Govt should restore status of district hospital: PCC chief

Published on:

The State Government should restore the status of district hospital to the Doon Medical College hospital, said the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Pritam Singh on Tuesday.  He said that the erstwhile Doon hospital and Doon Female hospitals served as district hospital and district female hospitals respectively before they were merged with the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC).

Singh said that after the merger of these hospitals the general public is facing problems. He demanded that the state government should set up a new medical college hospital preferably in the vicinity of the GDMC and restore the old status of Doon hospital and Doon female hospital. The Congress president said that the Doon hospital used to take extra load of patients who visit it from different parts of the State and neighboring states but now things are not what they used to be.

The State Congress Chief was talking to the media persons during his visit to the hospital on the day. The former Rajpur MlA Rajkumar who accompanied Singh said that the facilities have deteriorated after the district hospitals were merged with medical college. Apart from it many administrative issues have also plagued the hospital. He also demanded that since the hospital is centrally located the status of district hospital should be reinstated to it. The number of beds in both male and female wings of the hospitals have been reduced due to which the patients visiting it are facing problems, he added.

The State congress Chief inspected different wards of the hospital and distributed fruits to the patients. He also interacted with the patients, their caretakers and doctors of the hospitals and inquired about their problem. The State congress President said that the year is being celebrated as birth centenary year of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and congress workers are celebrating it. “Today Congress workers are distributing fruits in all the district hospitals to pay homage to the great leader,’’ he said.

Singh was accompanied by former Rajpur road MlA Rajkumar, lal Chand Sharma, R P Raturi, Rajendra Shah, Garima Dasauni and many congress leaders and workers.
