Govt schools to pay domestic rates of power

Published on:

The anomaly of levying commercial charges on power connections in Govt schools would be soon corrected and the schools would have to pay their electricity bills on domestic rates. A decision regarding this was made in a meeting of the State Director General (DG) of school education Captain Alok Shekhar Tiwari with the CM Trivendra Singh Rawat and Edu Min Arvind Pandey. In the meeting Tiwari said that the schools are asked to pay the electricity bills on commercial rates and payment of the hefty bills puts a burden on scarce budget these schools have.

Taking cognizance, CM decided that the electricity bill of government schools would be levied on domestic rates.

He directed the officers to prepare a proposal for it.

In the meeting the Edu deptt was directed to submit block wise lists of the schools having no power connection and those where the power was disconnected due to non payment of the bills within next three days.

The department officials have also been asked to submit details of the pending electricity bills of the schools.

Tiwari suggested that the Gujarat model of payment of electricity bills should be adopted in Uttarakhand where the integrated system of payment is followed.
