Speaking of the State Government’s commitment to the welfare of the teachers based in the State on Saturday  that happened to be the  Teachers’ Day, Chief  Minister Harish Rawat said that despite the qualifications, salaries and other facilities provided to the Government teachers being much better than those being provided to the teachers working in the private schools, the Government-run schools are lagging behind the private ones in terms of quality of education. “This is a serious matter and all the teachers must delve deep into it and churn out a roadmap to better things in the State-run schools,”  he said. The CM said this after felicitating 49 teachers with the Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Award for the year of 2012 and 2013  in recognition of their excellent service in primary, secondary, technical and Sanskrit education on Saturday.

After paying glowing tributes to the former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishanan, CM said the teachers are playing a vital role in the students’ life. “They are the real  builders of the nation as they bring up the would-be leaders. There is need to have multidimensional efforts to reform the education sector. The participation  of  private sector on this mission should be  ensured,” he said.  “Donation for education is the greatest donation of the world. Our scriptures have spoken volume of the  importance of such donation,” CM said.

“The private sector has to understand the requirements  for bettering the  education system. We have  organised this  programme  in  a  private school to encourage private investment in education sector. However, I must say that  the government teachers will have to play the leading role in reformation of education,” he said.

State’s per capita income was greater than other states, he said, adding that  the  state is developing apace as compared  other states. “ But the growth must be inclusive rather than unilateral. Priorities should be given to uplift 20 lakh disadvantaged people of the state,” he said.

CM also approved two mini tube wells and a CC route for Raipur area.

During the programme, 24 teachers for the year 2012 and 25 teachers for the year 2013 have been awarded. The Chief Minister also inaugurated Dharma International School also.
