The Government teachers of the State are eagerly waiting for the appointment of new teachers as it would allow them to transfer to the schools of the accessible category. Thousands of the teachers of the primary schools of the State are posted in the schools which are
categorised inaccessible by the State education department. These teachers are waiting for their turns to be shifted to the ‘accessible schools’. The State Government recently started a recruitment drive to appoint 2698 teachers in the primary schools. Similarly in the secondary schools of the state the process of recruitment in about 2500 posts of lecturer Teachers (lT) and lecturers is also in progress. The newly appointed teachers as per the Uttarakhand Teacher’s (School education) First Appointment, Promotions and Transfer guidelines -2013 are posted only in the schools located in the remote and inaccessible areas. Though the recruitment process of the primary teachers got stuck recently when the High Court (HC) quashed the recruitment process, the teachers are hoping that the new appointments when done would mean that thousands of teachers would be eligible to be transferred to the accessible category schools. The Government schools of the State are classified into Accessible and Inaccessible categories on the basis of factors like their location, distance from the health facilities, distance from the cities etc.
