Govt school masters to wear dept designated clothes

Published on:

The teachers of the Government schools of the State would now be seen wearing department designated clothes as part of the dress code. The male teachers would have to wear dark sky blue shirt and steel grey trouser in the schools while female teachers would wear Sky blue Sari or Salwar suit.

In an order directed to Additional Directors (ADs) of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions, the Director General (DG) of school education, Captain Alok Shekhar Tiwari (rtd) said that department has decided the dress code for the teachers as the ADs are yet to decide on the code. It is worth mentioning here that the department on July 04 had asked the ADs of Garhwal and Kumaon to decide the dress code for teachers after consulting the teacher organisations. The department intends to implement the dress code from August 01.

The idea of dress code for teachers is brain child of State Education Minister Arvind Pandey.

After assuming charge of the office he had repeatedly expressed his desire for the dress code for the teachers. The minister’s intention behind implementation of dress code is to ensure that teachers are wearing decent clothes in the schools. The different teacher organisations had expressed their opposition to the idea of dress code and termed it an attempt to curtail their freedom.
