Uttarakhand Government has planned to organise a ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ at various levels- nyay panchayat, block, district and state from November 9, the foundation day of the state, said the State sports department director Prashant Arya on Tuesday.
“The objective behind hosting ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ is to search the sports talents from across the State as well as to celebrate the foundation day of the state in an appropriate manner,” he said, adding that a sports committee comprising administrative officers have been formed to make the event successful.
“The directorate of Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal would be involved in finding out sports talents from the length and breadth of the State,” he said.
He further said that sports like Kabadi and Kho-kho aside from athletics and volleyball for various age groups - 10 years, 14 years, 17 years and 19 years- would be held at nyay panchayat levels between November 9 and November 11.
“From November 14 to November 20, the same sports competitions would be held for above age groups at the levels of the blocks and local bodies. likewise, such competition would be held for the above age groups at district level between November 24 and November 30.
State level competitions would be held between December 3 and December 13. In addition, open sports competitions on Taekwondo, Judo, boxing and table tennis would be held for the age group of 19 to 35 years during the same period,” Arya said.
“Similarly, sports competitions for different age categories like age group of 19 and 35 years (men and women), veteran 35-55 years (men and women) and Divyang (men and women) would also be held during the mega sports event.
For those falling in the age groups -10, 14, 17 and 19- of men and women category, competitions involving Kabadi, Kho-kho, athletics, volleyball, badminton, Taekwondo, Judo, boxing and table tennis would be held while for those falling in the age group of 19 to 35 years, competitions involving Kabadi, Athletics and Volleyball would be held.
Besides, those of the veteran age group ( 35 to 55 years) would participate in sports like kabadi, athletics and volleyball.The divyang would take part in sports like athletics and badminton,” he informed.
The block education officers have been appointed nodal officers of the committee at nyay panchayat levels while the district magistrate would appoint other members, he said.
“Chief education officer has been made nodal officer of the committee at the district level.
“The director of Directorate Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal, Uttarakhand would act as the nodal officer of the committee at the State level and the committee would comprise Madhyamik director and director urban development,” he added.
