Govt permission pending on commercial property tax collection in new wards

The 40 wards brought under the purview of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun last year were exempted from any type of tax as compared to the existing 60 wards, fewer services and facilities are provided there by the MCD.

However, officials are now trying to collect property tax from at least the commercial property owners. Earlier this year Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ had announced that property tax would be collected on commercial properties in order to enhance the revenues of the corporation.

However, the permission from the State Government has been pending for nearly six months.

Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “We have already sent a letter to the State administration seeking permission to allow us to collect tax on the commercial properties however no reply has reached us so far.”
