Reacting strongly to the police action against its activists in Rudrapur on Wednesday, the State BJP has blamed the Congress led State Government for misusing the CB-CID against the Opposition party leaders.
Allowing the CB-CID to register a case against party MlA from Rudrapur assembly constituency Raj Kumar Thukral, the Congress led State Government has only misused the state investigating agency, alleged former State BJP president and senior BJP leader Bachi Singh Rawat. This is nothing but a political vendetta on part of this Congress led State Government. But the BJP would not sit idle on this issue, he asserted. Similar, concerns were expressed by senior BJP leader and former State BJP president Puran Chand Sharma, during his visit here on Thursday.
Sharma said that the way the Udham Singh Nagar police behaved with senior party leader Balraj Passi during party activists’ protest in Rudrapur on Wednesday, is quite unacceptable. And the BJP had taken this issue seriously and the party would strongly raise protest against this matter in the days ahead, Sharma threatened, adding by raking up an old issue, the Congress led State Government is only trying to divert the attention of the people from the main issues.
It may be recalled that the Udham Singh Nagar police concerned had to resort to lathi charge against the BJP activists in Rudrapur on Wednesday on the charge of ‘flouting’ section 144 imposed in the district in response to the BJP’s agitation rally in protest against naming party MlA Raj Kumar Thukral in the October 2, 2011 incident of Rudrapur. An arrest warrant has already been issued against MlA Thukral in this case, said the Udham Singh Nagar police. It may be recalled that four persons were killed and several others were injured when members of two different communities cashed in Rudrapur on October 2, 2011.
Now the law will take its own course in this case. But as the old hands in the kumaon affairs here believe, by raking up this old issue once again, the ruling Congress Party has definitely given rise to the political temperature here. Therefore, it is to be seen how the people of this terai belt of Uttrakhand, Udham Singh Nagar, who enormously supported the BJP in the last assembly elections, would react to the aforesaid issue in an already politically charged environment in the upcoming crucial general elections.
