leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and Haldwani MlA Indira Hridayesh said that the Congress had stated earlier that it would remain silent for six months, but even before the State Government completes a month in office the State has been affected by disorder. lakhs of people have been rendered unemployed, the women have come out on the roads to protest while the “double-engine” Government appears to be falling lax in the aspect of public welfare, she said.

Speaking at a Press conference here on Thursday, the leader of Opposition lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party State Government. She alleged that the it was due to the carelessness of the Government that lakhs of persons had been left without employment in the State. She questioned the functioning of the State Government regarding the spheres of mining, liquor, loan waiver to farmers, food stuff and tourism, adding that the state government should protect the interests of the public. She said, “The system has gone off the tracks in the state. If it is not restored to order soon, the state might experience anarchy like situation.

The High Court has ordered a prohibition on mining. Such situations keep on coming; it is important to find immediate solutions for such issues. lakhs of people have been rendered without employment directly or indirectly due to closure of mining activities.

While the labourers have gone back home, the youth who had purchased new vehicles for the trade, have become loan debtors and are surrendering their vehicles considering the tax.

The State Government should have immediately hired top lawyers to advocate its stand in the supreme court in this case but the government remained lethargic. The hearing has been fixed for April 10 in the supreme court and in case some relief is gained from there, it will 15 more days to return the system back to normal.

The Government has maintained an odd stance in the case of the excise policy whereas the Uttar Pradesh Government found out an easy way out to normalise the situation. Women are protesting in support of prohibition on liquor. The Congress is in favour of complete prohibition but the chief minister talks of controlling alcohol through public awareness,” said Hridayesh.
